Creating layers for video
The purpose in this assignment is add depth to an animation or video by putting a foreground in front of your subject and a background behind them. It is possible to prepare one photograph in Photoshop and get both layers.
Start with an image that show something that can be used as a foreground image

Duplicate the layer

Drag your layer onto the NEW LAYER icon (looks like a page with the corner turned up)
Remove everything except for the foreground objects

Use whatever tools suit your needs (Magic wand, eraser, lasso, etc.)
Save each layer, one at a time. You want to maintain its transparency so the file format PNG will work well.
